A Brief History of Genesis

Genesis Motor is the luxury vehicle division of the Hyundai Motor Group. The first Genesis started as a Hyundai model, which took over three years (2003-2007) and $500 million to develop. Although there was some internal debate about whether the Genesis should be released as a Hyundai or as a separate brand, it was ultimately released as a Hyundai at the North American Auto Show in 2008. Seven years later, Genesis became a standalone brand because of its success in the luxury car market. J.D. Power named Genesis the most dependable automotive brand in North America in 2020.
